About BSA Employee Benefits

Our Company And Our People

BSA Employee Benefits, Inc. was created in January 2021 by Brent Schawb, a long-time insurance professional. The goal of the new company was to provide clients with a benefits agency built on low overhead, customized servicing and transparent pricing. Brent works as a strategic advisor for insurance companies and self-funded employer medical plans.

Today, Brent and colleague Deven Merritt work with companies in multiple states to establish and manage employee health insurance programs.

Brent Schwab

Brent started selling insurance in 1998 and has since worked in self-funded medical markets. He is a top producer and top consultant for Associated Employers, and earned the opportunity to serve under the 2011 United Benefit Advisor–an honor bestowed upon the top broker in the country.

Professionally, Brent is active in the National Health Underwriters (NHU), the Wyoming Business Coalition on Health, the Motor Carriers Association, the Self-Insurance Institute of America (SIIA), and International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans (IFEB). A philosophy of BSA Employee Benefits is to practice continuous improvement, so he and colleagues routinely attend continuing education training, and insurance industry events.

Brent earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with double majors in economics and marketing from Montana State University-Billings. He was also a college track and field athlete at Dickenson State University. He is very active in his community, volunteering his time to help local charities and community projects.

In his spare time you can find him fly fishing, camping, attending local sporting events, and spending time with his family.

Deven Merritt

Deven began working in the insurance industry in 2000, as a membership technician for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Montana, working her way up as a contracts manager and small group underwriter. She ultimately became the underwriting rep for appeals committee and new program implementation.

Later, Deven worked with insurance agencies as an employee benefits account manager. She has managed accounts for small, large, and self-funded programs, as well as working with individuals to help them obtain individual coverage on or off the Health Insurance Marketplace. In addition, she is well-versed in Medicare, life, disability, and ancillary lines of coverage to provide a well-rounded benefits package.

This spectrum of experience, along with her well-earned reputation for exceptional customer service, means that BSA clients are in very good hands with Deven.

When not working, Deven is active in supporting numerous community causes.  She enjoys camping, fishing, traveling, and spending time with her daughter.  She also has two energetic rescue dogs that keep her very active.
